About JEE Main 2024

Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across India for admissions to undergraduate Engineering, Architecture and Planning degree courses at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments.  JEE (Main) also functions as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. The examination takes place annually towards the beginning of the calendar year.

Students can pursue the following courses after qualifying for JEE Main:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE)

  • Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)

  • Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)

  • Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan)

JEE Main examination comprises 2 papers for which students can appear:

  • JEE Main Paper 1 is for 300 marks and is conducted for admission to undergraduate Engineering programmes.

  • JEE Main Paper 2 is for 400 marks and is conducted for admission to undergraduate Architecture (Paper 2A)  and Planning (Paper 2B) programmes.

JEE Main 2024 is to be conducted in two sessions for admission in the academic session beginning in 2024. This provides the candidates with the opportunity to improve their scores in case their first attempt is not satisfactory, thus reducing the chances for students to drop a year. If anyone misses the examination due to reasons beyond control (such as the Board examination), then they will not have to wait for one entire year. Candidates need not appear in both sessions. However, if a candidate appears in more than one session then their best of the JEE (Main) - 2024 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of the Merit List/ Ranking.

In the case of candidates appearing in both sessions, the best of the two NTA scores will be considered for further processing. There are no provisions for re-evaluation/re-checking of the Score.

The All India Rank is to be compiled and declared after Session 2 of JEE Main 2024 Examination is conducted. Score/Rank Cards are not to be dispatched to the candidates and the candidates are advised to download their Score/Rank Cards from the JEE Main website: www.nta.ac.in/, https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/ only.

Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)/Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ Others. All participating Institutions that do not use the Centralized Seat Allocation Process are to prepare their own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main) - 2024 and other criteria as decided by them.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an examination-conducting body and not an admission-giving authority. Therefore, NTA does not collect information regarding the total number of seats available in the institutions, or the eligibility and reservation criteria followed by the institutions.
