The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by India's 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) and several other affiliated universities and institutes. 

The Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative universities, organizes CLAT. Admission to the 5-year integrated LL.B programs and LL.M programs is based on the scores or ranks obtained in this examination. 

 

The UG-CLAT is primarily concerned with assessing candidates' comprehension and reasoning abilities. Overall, it is intended to be a test of aptitude and skills required for a legal education rather than prior knowledge. 

The UG-CLAT exam is of two hours in offline mode and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. The examination is conducted annually, usually toward the end of the year in December.

CLAT 2024 application/enrolment forms will be available online tentatively in August 2023 and must be finally submitted with the application fee in November 2023. The application forms will be available on the official website - https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

 

CLAT 2024 Examination dates 

 

In its most recent notification, the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) announced that CLAT 2024 will be held in the month of December 2023. The exam dates and application for the Common Law Admission Test 2024 will be announced soon. 

 

CLAT 2024 Application Procedure

 

Applications for CLAT 2024 can only be submitted online via the official website -https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates are required to follow the given guidelines while filling up and submitting the application form:

 

  • Candidates must first register on the CLAT website using their personal mobile number and email address. An OTP is sent to the registered mobile number for validation after registration. After the validation of the mobile number, candidates can log in with the registered mobile number and the password that is provided to them during registration.
  • Candidates must carefully follow the guidelines and provide accurate and authentic information. The provisional admission offered to the candidate will stand revoked with immediate effect and without assigning any additional explanation if the information provided at any stage of the application, examination, or admission process is discovered to be false or incorrect, or if there is any discrepancy or mismatch between the information provided by the candidate at the relevant section and the certificates/documents produced at the time of admission.
  • Candidates must accurately select the program (UG/PG) and category. Change of program or category requests made on the application form would not be taken into consideration.
  • The Convenor of CLAT reserves the right to cancel such a City/Centre and transfer the applicant to another City/Centre in the event of unanticipated incidents leading to the cancellation of a Test city or centre, or insufficient or an excessive number of candidates choosing to appear from a particular Test Centre.
  • In order to receive the benefit of reservation, the candidate must present the necessary certifications.
  • After filling out the application form, the candidates need to pay the CLAT application fee which is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
  • ​​If a candidate submits more than one online application, only the most recent submission will be taken into account. The application fee for the earlier application forms would not be reimbursed in such circumstances.

After the successful completion of the application, candidates are advised to log into his/her account and download the admit card/hall ticket, when made available. 

 

CLAT 2024 Eligibility

 

There is no maximum age for applicants to the UG program through the CLAT. Candidates must obtain the minimum required percentage of marks in their 10+2/equivalent examination:

 

  • General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI category - 45% marks/equivalent grade
  • SC/ST category - 40% marks/equivalent grade

 

Candidates who might take their qualifying exam in March or April 2024 are also qualified to take the CLAT 2024 exam. The candidate must provide their qualifying examination (10+2) score at the time of admission; otherwise, they will not be admitted to the program for which they may have applied.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) distributes the CLAT syllabus to candidates so they are aware of the subjects and key concepts covered in the examination. Additionally, the CLAT syllabus will assist the applicants in determining the crucial topics and verifying the topic-by-topic distribution of marks or weight assigned to distinct areas. 

The questions are usually divided across five areas or subjects, including

  1. English Language
  2. Current Affairs, including General Knowledge
  3. Legal Reasoning
  4. Logical Reasoning

CLAT 2024 Examination Pattern 

 

The CLAT test/exam pattern, which includes information regarding the structure of the question paper, including the types of questions given, the scoring system, and subjects, is released by the consortium every year on the official website.

The UG-CLAT is a two-hour offline exam consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 points will be deducted.

 

 

 

CLAT 2024 Results

Individual scorecards and percentiles are used to announce the CLAT results. By logging into their registered account, candidates can download their CLAT results. The result will include information such as the candidate's exam results, rank, qualifying status, and other pertinent information. Provisional allotment lists are then published by the Consortium of National Law Universities tentatively during the month of January. Candidates on the CLAT admission list must accept the seat and complete the fee payment. These candidates may also apply for an upgrade or withdraw from the admissions process. CLAT counselling is done in five rounds online at the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) website - consortiumofnlus.ac.in. All eligible candidates who have been invited to participate in the Admissions Counselling Process are notified via email at their registered email address and SMS at their registered phone number. 

Candidates who accept or apply for a seat upgrade must pay a confirmation fee to secure the seat.

 

 

CLAT 2024 Outcomes

 

Candidates will be able to take admission to India's 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) and several other affiliated universities and institutes, and pursue the 5-year integrated LL.B programs and LL.M programs based on the scores or ranks obtained in the CLAT exam.

 

If many candidates receive an equal amount of marks on the CLAT 2024, the following procedure will be used to break the tie and make admissions: 

 

  1. Higher scores on the CLAT exam's Legal Aptitude component or section
  2. Higher age
  3. Computer-controlled lotteries
