Calcutta: Trainer Vijay Singh was in the limelight, here, on Saturday, the New Year’s Day. The crafty schooler notched up a quadruple of wins in the nine-event card. His winners included two of the four trophy events, including the 1,200m Indian Produce Stakes that was claimed by a filly named Tuscany (Hindu Singh-up), and the 1,100m The Telegraph Cup, annexed by Legendary Striker, a piping hot favourite who delivered the goods without raising a sweat.
The afternoon's other major event, the 2,200m betindiaraces.com RCTC Gold Vase was also easily picked up by a clear public choice, Redoubtable (P. Ajeeth Kumar), by a big margin of about 10 lengths. However, the fourth trophy event, the 2,000m 91.9 Friends FM Cup, fell to a 6/1 shot, Suestado (Neeraj Rawal) who displayed a brilliant turn of foot, inside the final 100m, to upstage the long time leader, Vanguard (Chethan Gowda), from Bharath Singh’s stable, and S.K. Sunderji’s Deemed To Fire (C.S. Jodha) — the joint favourites in the betting.
