Calcutta: With filly, Rosina, withdrawn, the James McKeown’s horse, Trafalgar, is strongly fancied to win the 2,400m Calcutta Derby Stakes, Sunday’s main event. However, the myth goes that the Monsoon Derby winners don’t get the winter Derby trip. But Trafalgar is going to be the favourite, and McKeown’s esteemed horse will be ridden by the course-specialist, David Allan.
Trafalgar, a son of the Western Aristocrat-Bluegrass Phenom, is a bundle of stamina. Therefore, the extra two furlongs for the Monsoon Derby winner may not pose him any problem.

'Perpetual' gets verdict in Stewards' room
Calcutta: Javed Khan-trained Perpetual Winning (I. Chisty-up) won the 1,200m Madras Race Club Cup, in the stewards’ rooom on Saturday.
Originally, the horse has placed behind Vijay Singh’s 6/4 favourite, Lesrel (Hindu). but an objection, lodged by the third horse, (Brainstorm (D. Deora) against Lesrel being upheld, placings were revised favouring the 5/1 shot, Perpetual Winning.
