Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in a press note on Monday announced that KMC will run out of Covishield doses by Tuesday due to a lack of supply from the Central government. Therefore, it has been decided that all Covishield vaccination centres will remain closed starting this Wednesday indefinitely. The Covaxin centres will remain open as usual.
KMC had stopped the Covishield jab due to lack of stock on Friday last week. On Saturday, Firhad Hakim, the chairperson of KMC’s board of administrators, had blamed the centre for not providing the states with enough vaccines. He had further stated that KMC will resume the vaccinations on Monday if stock arrives by Saturday night.
Around 3 lakh doses of Covishield had reached Kolkata on Saturday night out of which 30 thousand doses were kept aside for the 102 Covishield centres running under KMC. But it seems KMC believes that they will run out of doses as by the end of today as it resumed administering Covishield jab this morning.
According to the data available on Co-Win’s dashboard, so far, around 49 lakhs people in Kolkata have been vaccinated.
