In view of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati has decided to conduct its 22nd edition convocation online on September 22. The program will be streamed live on YouTube and Facebook. The institute will award medals and degrees to the graduating students online.
The institute stated, “The institute has also created a photo-booth, with an option of different backgrounds, for students to take pictures at some selected locations on the campus. IIT Guwahati’s faculty and students have developed a telepresence module for a virtual visit to the Institute.”
A virtual avatar of graduating students will be shown collecting the medals and certificates from the director of IIT, Guwahati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the convocation as a chief guest. As a guest of honour, Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of State for Education, Sanjay Dhotre will also be present in the online program. As a special guest, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal will also address the function virtually.
